Every Thanksgiving, the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri, comes to life with Christmas lights that glow until mid-January. “Kansas City Plaza Lights Tower” by Catherine Sherman. The Plaza was the first shopping center in the world designed to accommodate shoppers arriving by automobile. Established in 1922 by J. C. Nichols, the Plaza was designed architecturally after Seville, Spain. On the right are the twin beams of the Steeples of Light, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the early 1940s as part of Wright’s design of the Community Christian Church building at 46th and Main Streets in Kansas City, Missouri.
