A red-crested cardinal stands on a volcanic rock in a beachfront park in Kauai in the Hawaiian islands.The Red-crested Cardinal (Paroaria coronata) is a bird species in the tanager family (Thraupidae). Despite its common name, it is not very closely related to the true cardinals.The red-crested cardinal is native to South America, but has been introduced to Hawaii.
