Happy Birthday, Hawaiian Plumeria Blossoms

“Hau`oli la Hanau” is Happy Birthday in the Hawaiian language. Plumeria (common name Frangipani]) is a genus of flowering shrubs and trees native to Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America as far south as Brazil, which grow in tropical and sub-tropical regions. The fragrant flowers are often used in leis and garlands. In modern Polynesian culture, a plumeria blossom can be worn by women to indicate their relationship status – over the right ear if seeking a relationship, and over the left if taken.
