The Norwegian Forest Cat traveled with the Vikings to North America in the 11th century, where it evolved into the Maine Coon Cat. It’s a large cat with a thick, water-resistant coat, tufted ears and toes, a fluffy raccoon-like tail and a mane. Doesn’t this cat look like Erik the Red!

The Norwegian Forest Cat traveled to North America with the Vikings in the 11th century, where their descendants developed into the Main Coon Cat. Both cats are large-sized and well suited to the cold with heavywater-proof fur, bushy tails and tufted ears and toes. The Maine Coon Cat is the state cat of Maine.
